Rail Safety Division

The Rail Safety Division (RSD) conducts tasks such as tests for approval of the rail safety system, review of comprehensive pilot rail operation, qualification management of rail industry workers, dissemination of rail safety knowledge, comprehensive management of rail safety information, safety diagnosis of rail facilities, and safety and convenience evaluation of rail stations.

Background

In order to eliminate social concerns over rail safety issues, the Railroad Safety Act was partially amended as of December 18, 2012 such that the safety management system governing the rail operator and rail facilities manager was overhauled into a preemptive, regular management system from a posteriori and limited system, and comprehensive pilot rail track operation was partially revised to remedy the current operational imperfections. This amendment also gave rise to the withdrawal of the previous comprehensive rail safety review system, and TS was additionally commissioned for tasks such as tests for approval of the rail safety system, preparation of draft for research, development, establishment, and revision of technical standards, regular and random inspection on the safety management system, review of comprehensive pilot rail operation, evaluation of results of rail facilities safety diagnosis, and safety and convenience evaluation of rail stations.
